چکیده
The collection of cephalopods from eight sampling horizons within the Olenidsletta Member, Valhallfonna Formation, Floian–Dapingian, Profilstranda and nearby Profilbekken, Ny Friesland, Spitsbergen, resulted in detection 31 species, 20 genera, 12 families Ellesmerocerida, Endocerida, Riocerida, Dissidocerida, Orthocerida, Tarphycerida, Oncocerida. Of these, five genera (Ethanoceras gen. nov., Hinlopoceras Nyfrieslandoceras Olenidslettoceras Svalbardoceras nov.) 19 species (Bactroceras fluvii sp. The Origin and Initial Rise of Pelagic Cephalopods in the Ordovician
BACKGROUND During the Ordovician the global diversity increased dramatically at family, genus and species levels. Partially the diversification is explained by an increased nutrient, and phytoplankton availability in the open water. Cephalopods are among the top predators of today's open oceans. Their Ordovician occurrences, diversity evolution and abundance pattern potentially provides informa...
متن کاملPalaeogeography and palaeoecology of early Floian (Early Ordovician) cephalopods from the Upper Fezouata Formation, AntiAtlas, Morocco
This is the first description of Ordovician cephalopods from Morocco. Although their occurrence has been known for a long time, only a poorly preserved conch from the late Katian of Ikhf n’Ouzerg (central Anti-Atlas) was described as “Orthoceras hastile Barrande” by Termier & Termier (1950). In some cases Ordovician cephalopods were mentioned within faunal lists without classification (e.g., Gu...
متن کاملFenxiang biota: a new Early Ordovician shallow-water fauna with soft-part preservation from China
Our perception of biodiversity in the geological past is incomplete and biased because most organisms did not have mineralized skeletons and therefore had little chance of fossilization. This especially refers to shallow-water marine environments, rarely represented by localities with exceptional preservation of fossil material (known as taphonomic windows or Konservat-Lagerstätten). Such extra...
متن کاملEarly Silurian (Llandovery) Trilobite fauna from
The aim of this study is to analyze the assemblage of trilobites in the Silurian sequences of Iran by exploring stratigraphic section of the Silurian Niur Formation (Asadli section). Based on comprehensive field studies and laboratory investigations three Trilobite genera were identified in the study area including Calymene blumenbachii, Gravicalymene convolva, Dalmanites brevigladiolus </...
متن کاملRevision of annulated orthoceridan cephalopods of the Baltoscandic Ordovician
The annulated orthoceridans of the Middle and Late Ordovician of Baltoscandia are described and their systematic frame is revised. The revision of these nautiloids, which are part of the Orthocerida and Pseudorthocerida, is based on the investigation of characters of the septal neck, the siphuncular tube, and the apex. An unequivocal terminology of these characters is suggested and applied. The...
